A great space for an awesome, peaceful getaway. The property is private and enclosed by natural rainforest vegetation so you get the feeling of being surrounded by nature while still being walking distance from downtown and restaurants. Host was friendly and communicative throughout the process. Thank you, had a great time!

The photos are misleading. Although the property is nice, the house was very dirty. There was a terrible smell of Lysol type detergent that permeated the house and never left during the 4 nights we were there. The baseboards were filthy, walls scraped up, kitchen cabinet door hanging off the hinges, and faucet broken. The plates were old, scraped up and plastic. It was clear that the owner did not care about the making the rental pleasant. One of the bedrooms was so tiny it only fit a bed and nothing else. The laundry room was outside but connected to house and it was absolutely filthy. There was dirt on the machines, floors, etc. it definitely had never been cleaned. The neighborhood is not nice. It’s pretty run down with drug addicts hanging around but that’s not the property’s fault . Hilo itself is a run down town. It is about 15 minutes to downtown. If I knew the house was as dirty as it was, I would never have rented it.

Great location and a beautiful setting in Hilo. My rental car was too large to fit in the garage, but had no issue street parking. We would happily stay again. Thank you!

Property itself was very nice. My family almost got robbed in the neighborhood (including my weightlifter 18 y/o son, we were not a super easy mark.) The Uber driver we paid to drive us .2 miles (not a typo. Point 2 miles) back to the property (with a gate that did not properly lock) said do not walk around at night. My view is if you are going to advertise a property to tourists as within walking distance of downtown, the walk should be relatively safe and not “don’t do that” lore amongst the local uber drivers. This was 8 pm after dinner, not midnight. Again, property itself was great, but we checked out the next morning because we did not feel safe. Unfortunately, since we could not get a refund, it cost us another 1,000 to rebook to a hotel. The hosts were totally within their rights not to refund us even one of our four pre-paid nights. They have a business to run and a mortgage (I assume) to pay on a lovely cottage in a bad neighborhood. I’d keep every dollar too! We made the decision as a family to eat that cost because our safety is the most important thing. Property itself is great, but be careful and do your research.

This is a gem of a house - a true find. My husband and I went to Hilo with four of our grown children to visit family. The house is one of three in a beautiful tropical setting behind a very secure gate. The house is simple, clean, and had plenty of everything we needed like towels, dishes, and bedding. It was truly a haven to return to each day. We walked to great coffee, Thai food, and First Friday Arts Festival. When I had questions (wanted early check in, couldn’t figure out the keypad at first, etc), the staff responded to my texts instantly. We all hope to stay here again!
